Two health experts from Groningen; Gert Kooster and Lailana Purvis, visit Indonesia as regards international cooperation among the two institutions. They deliver general lecture before hundreds of students on Wednesday (15/10). It is attended by the Rector of Unimus Prof. Dr. H. Djamaluddin Darwis, M.A. According to Gert the awareness of risky lifestyle is increasing in Europe. People in this four seasons continent do not want to suffer from diseases caused by unhealthy eating habit. They even label junk food to several quick serving food products. Food that is quick and easy to prepare is considered to be the cause of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and hypertension. They label some foods with junk food since they contain very low fibre, too much sugar level, and high calorie. When people frequently eat this kind of food, they seem to have a problem in the future with obesity. Obesity brings about other diseases particularly in developing countries. Lailana Purvis added that lifestyle problem is at the moment being faced by developing countries such as Indonesia. People who live in developing countries commonly are not well aware of the influence of lifestyle on their health. All of a sudden, they start feeling diseases symptom caused by unhealthy lifestyle. Besides consulting to health experts, people have to stop doing unhealthy lifestyle. Doing exercise, for instance, can help reducing the risk of suffering from diseases. There will be many variations to stay healthy by doing exercise. She suggests us to return to traditional method that become cultural heritage in Asian countries. In China, there can be found healthy gymnastics like Taichi while Indonesia has its own technique. I have ever heard the art of fighting called as Pencak Silat that is very good for our health, said Lailana.
