Food Technology, UNIMUS and the University of New England USA in Public Lecture With Professor Stephan

The moderator lecturer Prodi UNIMUS Food Technology, M Yusuf PhD, after the event was opened by the Rector Prof. Dr. Jamaluddin Dervish UNIMUS MA.

Professor fisheries of the USA is a reminder of how great the potential of marine and fisheries in Indonesia. “Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world, consisting of 17,504 islands with 95 990 km long coast, the sea area 62% of the total area,” he explained. Indonesia is not only superior in terms of location and geographical but also the existence of a large labor force, and the potential of seaweed. But we need to realize also a number of weaknesses so that this potential has not been fully utilized, including weakness storage problems, transportation, technology, fisheries data, issue value-added products, support, research and enforcement issues…

To penetrate the global market is not easy because of many challenges including food safety issues Sea products, new product competition, price volatility and the problem of innovation. It required a strategic alliance with partnerships, product development, innovation and technological development not forget nautical tourism

So, it seems to him through a SWOT analysis, strategy adopted is to divide into several development areas interconnected with each other. Traditional fisheries sector Area 1, Area 2 region Coastal / marine tourism, Fisheries and Aquaculture Area 3 by developing high value commodities (grouper, Ornamental), and area 4 Environmental sustainability.
